Biokinetics Services

Improve physical functioning and healthcare through exercise.

What Is Biokinetics?

Life through movement. This medical service assists people with orthopaedic and other chronic conditions by prescribing specific exercise programs and stretches to help manage and improve the patients quality of life.

Biokinetics is the science of movement and the application of exercise in rehabilitative treatment of performance. The primary function of Biokinetics is to improve physical functioning and healthcare through exercise as a modality. This includes health promotion, the maintenance of physical abilities and final phase rehabilitation, by means of scientifically-based physical activity programme prescription.

Biokinetics Rates

Biokinetics sessions can be claimed directly from your medical aid. Sessions are generally covered out of the “savings” portion of the medical aid. Should that savings be depleted, sessions are for the patient’s own account. There may also be a shortfall on the account which can be settled directly with the practice.

Biokinetics Services

We are able to assist our clients with a range of biokinetics services including: sports injury rehabilitation, orthopedic rehabilitation, muscle/postural imbalances, neuro rehab (brain or spinal cord injuries, stroke, etc.), management of lower back “aches and pains”, and chronic disease and cardiac management.

Sports injury rehabilitation

Pre- and post-surgery injury rehab and conditioning for return-to-sport. This includes foundational strength and proprioceptive training and sports-specific exercise prescription.

Orthopedic rehabilitation

Conditioning and strengthening of joint, muscle, and/or tendon after acute or chronic condition, as well as proprioceptive training and correction of biomechanics to reduce risk of reinjury.

Muscle/postural imbalances

Identification of imbalances within the body. Prescription is given to stretch those muscles which are tight, strengthen weakened muscles, and improve proprioception for maintenance.

Neuro rehabilitation

Exercise prescription focusing on impairments to the nervous system (brain or spinal cord injuries, stroke, etc.). This works to improve functioning in activities of daily living (ADLs), as well as reducing risk of falls or other overuse injuries, or concurrent postural/strength issues.

Management of lower back “aches and pains”

Identifying possible contributing factors to lower back ache, or assisting in the management of diagnosed spinal or muscular disorders in the back. Exercise prescription and modification of contributing lifestyle factors.

Chronic disease and cardiac management

Including chronic diseases of lifestyle (such as blood pressure or diabetes) management, obesity, autoimmune diseases, and other chronic conditions where exerise has been proven to improve quality of life.
